The Parable of the Shrewd Manager
Ok, so this didn't really make a lot of sense. My mom didn't understand it either.
Synopsis of parable:
A rich man's manager is going to be fired because he squandered the man's possessions. So, to be favored and welcomed by other people once he leaves his job, he tells the people who owe his master money that they don't need to pay his master as much as they origionaly did. Then the master speaks well of the manager. Why? Because the manager kept him from getting money.
Then it says that we should be shrewd, because the people of the world are more shrewd than the people of the light. It can't possibly be saying be more worldly, can it?
Then it says to use worldly wealth to gain friends. Shouldn't we be using our money to help others and to further the kindom of God? We always see on TV the rich kid who has tons of friends just because we think he/she is rich, and we look down on that usually.
So what's this? I really don't get it.

Arbitrary now, I guess, after we talked about it at practice, but feel free to discuss!

Well, it could have been that one of the reasons he was losing his job was because he was overcharging the debtors, so he returned the payment to normal.

Re: The Parable of the Shrewd Manager
I think probably not. He was squandering his master's possessions, so that means that his master was the one losing money.
Plus, the parable probably would have specified that.

God had a purpose for it thats for sure! The additional teachings in luke 16 completely confused me! Why did he add 3 totally different verses that seemed off of the subject to what he was talking about? He knows why...I just really have no clue!

I think those were just three different things that Jesus said that Luke put together.

No, it isn't. But we still are off subject. Put this in "Complete Randomness".

Re: The Parable of the Shrewd Manager
He can have a sig as long as he wants to. And he's right; a comment about his sig should probably go somewhere else. It could just as easily fit in a randomness thread, and this is one about a specific topic.

thoughts...
[color=darkblue]I taked to my dad about this parable. we came to somewhat of a conclusion that what the shrewd man did was obviously wrong. and reprehensible, even though he was commended, note that he was STILL fired. The lesson Jesus was trying to convey i think, is that while you have time on earth, (earth job, like life, you will die some day be fired) use your resources to bless others and, if you will, "win" them into the kingdom, when you die, they'll be there with you. and eventually see you later. That's just a guess though. ^^;

Re: The Parable of the Shrewd Manager
sorry kelly!
anyways,
i think the grain of salt to take with the shrewd manager parable is that he was STILL fired for his dishonest dealings.
